on June 14, 2021, Philips issued a recall for some of its respiratory care devices. They acknowledged that the sound abatement foam used in the machines can degrade and release dangerous chemicals. if inhaled, these chemicals can cause inflammation, irritation, headaches, or even cancer.
The foam inside of the machines decomposes over time and leaves tiny particles inside the devices.
